Phayao Lake is a picturesque lake in Phayao Town. Another place to visit in Phayao is Wat Phra Nang Din. This Buddhist temple is home to a Chiangsaen-style Buddha statue. Unlike other Buddha statues does not have a base and just sits on the ground. Legend has it that the villagers tried to build a base for the statue three times but it could never be completed so they left it like that.
Wat Phra That Chom Thong is another temple on the list. This is a forest temple with a striking golden yellow chedi. It is said that the temple is home to a few relics belonging to Buddha, namely a strand of his hair and his right-hand bone.
