Vietnam is one of the cheapest countries in all of Southeast Asia. Using 100 US dollars can take you a long way. From transportation to food to accommodation, you will be able to find everything you need for under $100 especially in a less touristy city like Vung Tau.

But before we get into the details of what $100 can get you in Vung Tau, let’s get the converter out to calculate how much $100 is in Vietnamese Dong or VND. Right now, as I am writing this blog, $100 is equal to 2,265,000 VND which though it sounds like a lot is really not that much. But the amount is enough for a week’s worth of travel around the country. Even in big cities like Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, you will be able to coast by on just $100 if you plan properly. In Vung Tau, $100 is easily doable.

How to spend only $100 in Vung Tau

In this blog, we’ll be taking a look at what $100 can get you in Vung Tau. So first off, you will need to break down costs and budget for a few necessary things like accommodation, food, and transportation. After that, you can use the remaining for tours as well as save a bit for any sort of emergencies that might happen.

Accommodation:

The cost of staying in Vung Tau is much less than in other cities in Vietnam. You can find budget hotel rooms for around $5 to $8 per night. You’ll find most of the hotels in and around Thuy Van Street near Back Beach, the most popular beach in Vung Tau.

Food:

Food is one cost that you don’t have to worry about that much. Vietnam is famous for its amazing street food. The best part about the food besides the taste is that it is cheap, a bowl of pho costs around $1. The budget for a full course meal with drinks per day is around $7 to $8. If you want to splurge a little and try out some fancy restaurants in Vung Tau, it will set you back $15 to $20, much more expensive than street food but still relatively manageable. A cup of coffee will cost from $1 to $4 depending on whether you get your coffee at a small stall or fancy cafe. When it comes to beer, the price depends on whether you get a domestic beer or an imported beer. A can of domestic beer is very cheap, costing around $0.53 to $1 only while a can of imported beer will cost around $2. A 1.5-liter bottle of water will cost $0.59.

Transportation:

Traveling around the city of Vung Tau is not very expensive if you choose the right mode of transportation. If you are traveling on a very tight budget, avoid taxis within the city limits. Taxis in Vung Tau are rather expensive with prices being a whopping 30% higher than in cities like Ho Chi Minh City. The best way to get around Vung Tau is by walking. The city is small enough for you to be able to walk around without getting hopelessly lost. You can also rent motorbikes or scooters for around $6 to $8 per day.

Tourist experiences:

The best thing about Vung Tau and its beaches is that there is no entrance fee for any of the beaches. You can also walk around and relax on the Vung Tau promenade, a promenade that connects two of the most popular beaches in Vung Tau, the Front Beach and the Back Beach. Most of the tourist experience in Vung Tau is nestled around the beaches which are all free to the public. The only tourist experience you have to pay a substantial fee for is the cable car ride to Ho May Park which costs $1.32 and the entrance fee for The Robert Taylor Museum Of Worldwide Arms which costs $4.42. Other experiences like visiting the White Palace cost only $0.75, the Vung Tau Lighthouse cost $0.18, and the most famous statue in all of Vung Tau, the Jesus Christ Statue, does not have any entrance fees.

Vietnam, a tiny unassuming country in Southeast Asia catapulted itself into infamy when the then divided country plunged into a war that devastated the country. Though the war is far behind, it still has a hold on an entire generation. Nowadays, the country is more known for its backpacking scene and breathtaking scenery than the war.
