Vietnam is one of the fastest emerging economies in the world. As a result, the country has a huge group of foreigners who have descended into this Southeast Asian country for work or studies. To help these people, the Vietnamese government has offered them as well as Vietnamese citizens who have families living abroad a chance to enter Vietnam with a Vietnam Dependent Visa or TT visa. 

Vietnam Dependent Visa

Vietnam Dependent Visa (TT) is a type of visa that allows the dependent (children, spouse, and parents) of an individual who resides or works in Vietnam to enter Vietnam. They will have to be sponsored by a family member who is either a Vietnamese citizen or a foreigner who has been issued a Vietnamese visa or has a temporary residence card. The visa is valid for a total of 12 months and up to 3 years.

Who is eligible for a Vietnam Dependent Visa?

The following people are eligible for a Vietnam Dependent Visa:

  • Parents, spouses, or children of Vietnamese citizens
  • Parents, spouses, or children under 18 years of age of foreigners with LV1, LV2, LS, DT1, DT2, DT3, NN1, NN2, DH, PV1, LD1, or LD2 visas.

How to apply for a Vietnam Dependent Visa?

You can apply for a Vietnam Dependent Visa through different methods depending on whether you are currently in Vietnam or not. But before we talk about how you can apply for a dependent visa, we need to go through the required documents.

Required documents:

If the sponsor is a Vietnamese citizen-

  • Form NA5 for applying for a visa in Vietnam
  • Form NA2 for applying for a visa outside Vietnam
  • Original passport of the dependent and sponsor which is valid for at least 6 months and has at least 01 blank page 
  • Copy of Vietnam visa
  • 2 4x6cm passport-sized photograph of the dependent
  • Copies of ID Card, family book of the sponsor (must be notarized as per Vietnam law)
  • Proof of family relationship, such as marriage certificate, certificate of birth, etc.

If the sponsor is a foreigner-

  • Form NA5 
  • Original passport of the dependent which is valid for at least 6 months and has at least 01 blank page 
  • Copy of passport and Vietnam visa/temporary residence card of the sponsor
  • Proof of family relationship, such as marriage certificate, certificate of birth, etc.
  • Copy of sponsor’s organization/company certificates (Business registration certificate/Investment Certificate/Certificate of establishment of representative office, Certificate of Seal Template Registration, and Certificate of Tax Registration) 
  • Letter of introduction stating the purpose and addressed to the Vietnam Immigration Department.

Getting a dependent visa in Vietnam 

To get a dependent visa in Vietnam, you need to follow the steps given below:

Step 1: Gather all the documents required as mentioned above. Please make sure the documents are notarized according to Vietnam laws.

Step 2: Submit the documents to the Vietnam Immigration Department in Ho Chi Minh, Hanoi, or Danang. 

Step 3: After submitting the documents you will receive a receipt with an appointment date.

Step 4: Come back to the office on the appointment date to get the visa stamped on the passport of the dependent.

Getting a dependent visa outside Vietnam

To get a dependent visa outside Vietnam, you need to follow the steps given below:

Step 1: Gather all the documents required as mentioned above. Please make sure the documents are notarized according to Vietnam laws.

Step 2: Submit the documents to the Vietnam Immigration Department in Ho Chi Minh, Hanoi, or Danang which is to be done by the sponsor.

Step 3: After submitting the documents, the sponsor will receive a dependent visa approval letter which will then be sent to the dependent.

Step 4: The dependent can then get the dependent visa approval letter stamped upon arrival in Vietnam at any of the 8 international airports in Vietnam.
