If you are traveling and you have a stopover in Vietnam, it will be a good idea to read up on your transit visa options. In most cases, the stopovers might last for a few hours but in a few cases, they might last over 24 hours. If your transit lasts longer than 24 hours, you will be required to apply for a Vietnam visa.

Read on to find out more about Vietnam transit visa requirements to make sure you are not breaking any laws.

Vietnam Transit Visa

Let's take a look at Vietnam transit visa requirements.

Transit requirements for under 24 hours

If your connecting flight is within 24 hours and as long as you don’t leave the airport premises, you will not be requiring a Vietnam Transit Visa. You should also have the following documents in hand to make sure your transit goes as smoothly as possible.

  • A passport with a minimum of 6 months validity
  • Proof of travel to the destination (plane tickets, visa, hotel bookings, etc.)

This also applies to residents of countries that have a Vietnam visa exemption.

Transit requirements for over 24 hours

If your connecting flight is NOT within 24 hours, or you are staying in the airport for more than 24 hours or would like to enter Vietnam while you wait for your next flight, you will have to get a Vietnam transit visa.

Please note- In the case of cruise ships, the same conditions will apply. Travelers on cruise ships transiting through Vietnam must stay onboard the port premises or within the cruise ship. If you wish to leave the port and explore the area, then a transit visa will be required.

Applying for a Vietnam transit visa

To get a Vietnam transit visa you must apply at least 72 hours before your flight lands in Vietnam.

Getting a visa can be quite a hassle with running around and searching for embassies or consulates. Instead, you can apply for a Vietnam visa online in 4 easy steps:

Step 1: Start the process by filling out the Vietnam visa online application form available at the BDATrip website.

Step 2: Confirm the information in the application form and pay the required visa fees. For payment fee details, you can check the table given below.

Step 3: Once you’ve submitted the form, you will receive the approval letter within 2 to 3 business days.

Step 4: Check your email. Download and print the documents in color, and get your visa stamped upon arrival.

That’s it! All you need to do is fill out a form and the team here at BDATrip will handle all the bureaucratic juggling for you.

Vietnam transit visa cost
