Vietnam is one of the world's fastest-growing tourist destinations, with over 3000 kilometres of coastline, pristine beaches, dynamic cities, mountains, and numerous cultural and historical sites. Tourists from across the globe can plan a hassle-free trip to this beautiful country in just a few days, starting with applying for a Vietnam visa.

Currently, the Vietnamese Immigration Department offers several types of visas to foreigners entering the country, including the e-Visa, valid for 30 days and permits single entry only. E-Visa charges 25 USD for card payments. It takes three working days to be processed and is available to citizens of over 80 nations.

Due to their ease of use, E-visas play an essential role in promoting Vietnam tourism. Despite the benefits of E-visas, this alternative type of visa also has disadvantages. This article will provide you with detailed pros and cons.

Pros of obtaining a Vietnam e-visa

Convenience

You are not required to submit documents to the Vietnamese Embassy Vietnamese Consulate for Vietnam E-visa. Travellers can apply for this type of visa anywhere and at any time with the help of an internet-powered device.

E-visas are available at any of eight international airports, 13 international border gates, and seven seaports across Vietnam, unlike visas on arrival, which can only be obtained at five specific airports.

As long as you have a valid Vietnam E-visa, you can enter the country at many border checkpoints regardless of how you arrived.

Time-saving

The Vietnam e-visa saves a lot of time, especially if you're in a hurry. Travellers are not required to visit the Vietnam Embassy to apply for their visas. The e-visa application procedure takes a maximum of five minutes. This method will enable you to enter the country without standing in a queue at the airport for your visa stamp.

Cost-efficiency

If you're opting for this type of visa, you will not be incurred any additional expenses such as travel costs to and from the Embassy as well as for the preparation of documents that will need to be furnished. You will only be required to make a one-time payment of USD 25, and the e-visa will be sent to your email inbox after it has been processed.

Cons of Vietnam E-visa

Although there are several benefits that one can reap from obtaining a Vietnam e-visa, as with anything else, there are certain downsides too. We've listed some of the disadvantages below:

Eligibility

Unfortunately, not everyone can apply for the Vietnam e-visa. Only citizens hailing from 80 countries are eligible to apply for this type of visa. Hence, you must check if your country falls on the list of eligible countries before applying for your e-visa. If your country does not fall on this list, you can always opt for a visa upon arrival or apply for a visa at the nearest Vietnam Embassy.

Duration of stay

Travellers opting for the Vietnam e-visa can only stay in the country for 30 days with a single entry.

Vietnamese visas on arrival permit applicants to keep up to 1 year and enter and exit multiple times. Unlike Vietnam's visa on arrival, Vietnam E-visa only allows applicants to stay within Vietnam's territory for just 30 days with one entry. Consider a Vietnam visa on arrival if you intend to stay in Vietnam for a long time or if you intend to leave and re-enter Vietnam during your stay.

Visa rejection

In the case of inadequate or incorrect information provided on the application form, the e-visa may be rejected or denied. In such a case, the processing fee, which is USD 25, will not be refunded.

Purpose of visit

Vietnam E-visa works best for tourists who travel to Vietnam for vacation purposes. Since tourists will be allowed only 30 days of stay in Vietnam with one entry per month, Vietnam E-visas cannot be issued to foreigners with multiple entries for business purposes or family visits. You may also apply for a visa at a Vietnam Embassy or Consulate if you wish to travel to Vietnam for any other reason.

Availability

If you're a Vietnam e-visa holder, you should check with their airlines before booking your trip. As the Vietnam e-visa is a reasonably new addition to the Immigration policies, certain airlines or immigration officials at the border checkpoints may not accept it and permit entry.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Vietnam e-visa offers one of the most convenient and cost-effective ways to obtain a visa. There are some disadvantages to the Electronic Vietnam visa, even though it is the most popular choice among most applicants. We hope that our list of pros and cons will help you choose a visa application process that is convenient and easily accessible for you.
