In a remote and beautiful corner of Sapa Valley lies a beautiful and quaint village known as Cat Cat Village. Home to the ethnic Hmong and Dzao tribes, this village lies on the foothills of the Muong Hoa Valley. It is surrounded by lush green forests, mountains, and rice fields. The village is also one of the best places to trek to in Vietnam.

How to get to Cat Cat Village

Cat Cat Village is located around 2 to 3 km away from Sapa city. It takes around 30-40 minutes of trekking from Sapa City center to reach the village. You can also take a taxi or rent a car or motorbike to reach the village. But the best way to get to the village is by walking, which is great for admiring the stunning scenery all around you.

Once you reach the base of the village you’ll need to pay an entrance fee of 25,000 VND to enter the village. This money goes directly into helping the villagers. 

When is the best time to visit Cat Cat Village?

If you want to see the green rice fields, the best month to visit the Cat Cat Village is between June and July. But it’ll be crowded during this season. If you want to avoid crowds, the best time to visit is from March to May when the weather is warm and sunny but not humid or hot.

The Hmong houses are one of Vietnam’s most unique traditional houses. Each house is unique and made from wood found around the area. There are a few exhibition houses that are filled with traditional artifacts to give visitors an idea of what life is like in the village.

The cuisine in Cat Cat Village is something you cannot find anywhere else. So, make sure to get a taste of it. Corn wine and apple wine are potent local wines that are must-try. You can also try out various dishes made from smoked meats, bamboo shoots, and more.

Cat Cat Waterfalls or Tien Sa Waterfalls is a stunning waterfall nearby Cat Cat Village. The sound from the waterfall can be heard throughout the village. There are benches near the waterfall where you can sit down and enjoy the view.

Go shopping in the village

The entire village is one big open shopping mall. All along the main path of the village are houses selling colorful traditional textiles, clothes, purses, and more, all hand-made by the locals who live here.

Take a picture at the Watermills

Another thing you’ll probably notice around the village is the presence of huge bamboo water mills. These watermills are used to pound rice, corn, and other grains that grow locally. A photo with one of the watermills in the background is a must for anyone who visits the village.
