The Weird and Wonderful Maze Bar of Dalat

The Weird and Wonderful Maze Bar of Dalat

You've probably heard about the Hang Nga Guesthouse or the aptly named Crazy House of Dalat. But did you know that there’s another just as crazy cafe inspired by the Crazy House? It’s called the Maze Bar or the 100 Roots Cafe and is located in the same town as Crazy House, in the picturesque hill town of Dalat. Read on to find out what it is like inside this architectural marvel.

Exploring the Maze Bar of Dalat

Located on a narrow alleyway near the Dalat market center, the bar looks like any other fashionable ‘hipster bar’ from the outside. But once you step inside you’ll be transported to a different world. The closest words that can describe this place are dark fairytale meets fantasy.

Taking inspiration from the Crazy House as well as the fantasy and the natural world, the Maze Bar or 100 Roofs Cafe is bizarre and awe-inspiring. Once you enter the bar, you come across an actual maze with uneven narrow paths and winding staircases that will either lead to a dead-end or another floor. The interior is decorated with sculptures that seem to be emerging from within the walls and a variety of weird but wonderful artwork.

One of the many paths inside the maze leads to a room decorated with coral sculptures while some others lead to rooms that look like caves. If you are lucky you might find a path to a stunning secret wonderland garden on the rooftop which is considered the prettiest place in the entire bar. From this floor, you’ll be rewarded with amazing views of Dalat City. There are also a few paths where you have to squeeze yourself through a small hole to get to another part of the bar. Some of the walkways are not lit so be extremely careful while walking around. You might just find yourself getting lost inside because of the numerous passages and secret rooms.

The bar is extremely popular with tourists who come here for a drink and to wander around the maze. You don’t have to pay an entrance fee at the reception area, instead, you need to buy a drink to be allowed into the bar. If you are worried about how you’ll find your way to the toilet, don’t worry, the bar has you covered. The paths to the toilets are marked. But finding your way to the paths is the fun part.

How to find the bar?

Maze Bar is located on street 57, Phan Boi Chau just a few minutes walk away from the main market of Dalat. You can ask anyone around about the directions to the bar since it's extremely popular. But do not call it the Maze Bar since most locals are only familiar with the name 100 Roofs Cafe or Duong Len Trang which translates to “the Way to the Moon''. The name “the Way to the Moon '' comes from the night sky view from the rooftop garden.
