Access to services such as Google, WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok in mainland China depends on how the eSIM provider routes mobile data. Some international roaming eSIMs may route traffic outside mainland China, while other plans may remain subject to local internet restrictions.
Do not assume that every China eSIM bypasses the Great Firewall. Check the specific plan details before purchasing if access to these services is important during your trip.

After purchasing an eSIM, you will receive the installation information or QR code required to add the eSIM to a compatible device. You can normally install the eSIM before departure while you still have a reliable internet connection.
When you arrive in China, select the eSIM as your mobile data line and enable data roaming if required by the plan. Keep your physical SIM enabled separately if you still need to receive calls or SMS on your regular number.
