1. Phu Langka Forest Park

Phu Langka Forest Park is a protected area of the Phi Pan Nam Range that covers over 4.82 sq.m. The forest park is a popular trekking area with plenty of trails all around. But what makes this park special is the sea of fog that envelops the mountains and valley early in the morning. This view makes the park a great place for an overnight camping trip.

2. Phayao Lake

Phayao Lake is a picturesque lake in Phayao Town. It is the largest freshwater lake in Northern Thailand and one of the places in Phayao that if you don't visit, it's like you have never been to Phayao town. The lake is a popular fishing spot among locals and is home to more than 50 species of fish. It is also a great spot to have a picnic while watching the sunset.

4. Phu Sang Waterfall

5. Doi Phu Nang National Park

Doi Phu Nang National Park is a park located in Dok Khamtai in Phayao province. The park is situated in between two mountain chains making it an ideal place for flora and fauna to thrive here, especially bird species. You can also find rock formations and impressive waterfalls around the park.

6. Doi Luang National Park

Another national park you should visit in Phayao is Doi Luang National Park. It is one of the biggest national parks in Thailand and covers an area that expands to three provinces- Chiang Rai Province, Lampang Province, and Phayao Province. The park is home to the Doi Luang mountain which is great for hiking. You can also find plenty of scenic waterfalls around the park.

8. Wat Phra Nang Din

Another place to visit in Phayao is Wat Phra Nang Din. This Buddhist temple is home to a Chiangsaen-style Buddha statue. Unlike other Buddha statues does not have a base and just sits on the ground. Legend has it that the villagers tried to build a base for the statue three times but it could never be completed so they left it like that.

9. Wat Phra That Chom Thong

Wat Phra That Chom Thong is another temple on the list. This is a forest temple with a striking golden yellow chedi. It is said that the temple is home to a few relics belonging to Buddha, namely a strand of his hair and his right-hand bone.

10. Wat Nantaram

The last place in Phayao that we recommend your visit is Wat Nantaram. This is the main temple of the Thai Yai community. It has a large viharn built of teak wood and is beautifully decorated. There is also a large Thai-style chedi and many other temple arts including a museum of ancient currencies, antique utensils, and artwork displayed inside the temple premises.
