How to Apply For a Vietnam Investor Visa

What is a Vietnam Investor Visa?

Vietnam Investor Visa (DT) is a type of visa issued to foreign investors, representatives of foreign companies who are interested in investing in Vietnam-based companies. It has a validity of 12 months and can be extended up to 5 years

Vietnam Investor Visa Types

There are 4 types of Vietnam Investor Visa.

  1. DT1 - Granted to foreign investors in Vietnam and representatives of foreign organizations investing in Vietnam with the contributed capital of 100 billion VND or more or investing in industries and trades eligible for investment decided by the Government of Vietnam. Valid for up to 5 years.
  2. DT2 - Granted to foreign investors in Vietnam and representatives of foreign organizations investing in Vietnam with a capital contribution of under 100 billion VND, or investment in the business sector in the field of investment supported by the Government of Vietnam. Valid for up to 5 years.
  3. DT3 - Granted to foreign investors in Vietnam and representatives of foreign organizations investing in Vietnam with a capital contribution of under 50 billion VND. Valid for up to 3 years.
  4. DT4 - Granted to foreign investors in Vietnam and representatives of foreign organizations investing in Vietnam with a capital contribution of less than 3 billion VND. Valid for up to 12 months.

Vietnam Investor Visa requirements

To apply for an investor visa, you need the following documents:

  • A passport with a minimum of 6 months validity and at least two (2) blank pages.
  • Temporary residence registration form
  • Form NA5- Application for a visa, visa extension, an extension of stay for foreigners in Vietnam
  • Form NA16- Registration form for the seal and signature of the legal representative of the enterprise operating in Vietnam;
  • Proof of legal status as a foreign investor
  • A certified copy of the investment registration certificate or business registration certificate
  • A certified copy of seal specimen registration or a publication notice of the seal specimen information.

Applying for a Vietnam Investor Visa

There are 2 ways you can apply for a Vietnam investor visa.

Getting an investor visa in Vietnam

This method is for those individuals who are currently in Vietnam at the time of applying for an investor visa.

Step 1: Gather all the documents mentioned above.

Step 2: Submit the documents to the closest Vietnam Immigration Department of the province of the business you are investing in.

Step 3: After you have submitted all the required documents, you will receive your investor visa within 5 business days.

Getting an investor visa abroad

This method is for those individuals who are applying for an investor visa outside Vietnam. This option can be divided into two sub-options.

Getting an investor visa at the Vietnam Embassy or Consulate

To get an investor visa from the embassy or consulate, follow these steps.

Step 1: The first step is to submit your visa application along with the required documents to Vietnam’s embassy or consulate in your home country.

Step 2: Your documents will then be checked and verified. After which you will receive an appointment letter. The appointment letter is necessary in order for you to get your investor visa. 

Step 3: The entire process will take around 5 to 7 business days after which you can either pick it up from the embassy or consulate or have it posted to you by mail. 

Getting an investor visa upon arrival in Vietnam

In order to get an investor visa upon arrival you will need to follow the steps below:

Step 1: You need to reach out to the company staff or a travel agency like BDATrip to help you with your documents. 

Step 2: Your proxy or agent will then submit the above documents to the office of the Vietnam Immigration Department in Hanoi, Danang, or Ho Chi Minh City.

Step 3: After document submission, your proxy/ agent will receive an appointment letter which he/she will then send to you. 

Step 4: You need to get a printed copy of the approval letter once it is received and carry it with you along with the visa application form, 2 passport-sized photos, and a stamping fee in cash to the airport.

Step 5: Once you arrive in Vietnam, you can submit it to the visa counter at the airport to get it stamped.

Please note that this method is only applicable when you arrive by air.
