Traveling came to a stall ever since Covid happened. But now 2 years have passed and life as we know it is slowly getting back to normal which includes traveling. In order to start bringing things back to normal, several countries have started issuing their own Covid vaccine passports or documents that prove an individual has been vaccinated. Vietnam is no exception.
The Vietnamese health ministry officially issued Vietnam’s covid vaccine passports which have been in effect since December 21, 2021. The government also recognizes vaccine passports from 78 countries which means you will be able to travel to Vietnam with fewer restrictions. Before we talk about Vietnam’s covid vaccine passport policy, let’s look into what actually is a covid vaccine passport.
The Covid Vaccine Passport is a digital ‘passport’ that provides proof that an individual has been vaccinated against Covid. It allows an individual to travel and move around and do activities that were restricted during the pandemic like going to the gym, theatre, or restaurant. It also allows a person to travel without heavy restrictions including less quarantine time or even no quarantine time.
The digital passport comes in the form of a QR code which can be scanned and is valid for a total of 12 months after creating the QR code. Personal information such as name, date of birth, nationality, number of vaccine doses received, date of vaccination, the number of the vaccine batch, type of vaccine, the vaccine manufacturer, and a code for the certification are all included in the passport. Please note that there might be slight variations from country to country.
In Vietnam, if you hold a Covid vaccine passport from one of the countries approved by the Vietnamese government, you will be allowed to undergo the 3-day quarantine instead of the normal 7-day quarantine from January 1 2022 onwards.
During the quarantine, you will be expected to self-monitor your health. After the end of your 3-day quarantine, you will then have to take an RT-PCR SARS-CoV-2 test. If the result is negative, then you can continue to self-monitor your health for 14 days. If your result is positive, then you will have to get treatment and continue self-isolating as per protocol.
Please note that you are required to have received the second dose of a Covid vaccine at least 14 days and no longer than 12 months before arrival.
Vietnam recognizes vaccine passports from 78 countries which include the following:
If you hold a Covid vaccine passport or certification from one of these countries listed above you will be exempted from quarantine restrictions within Vietnam as per government regulations.
