Initially, Tao Dan Park was part of the French Governor-General’s Palace grounds. In 1869, when Miss Clavell Road was constructed, the park was separated from the palace and named Jardin de la Ville, also known as Vườn Ông Thượng or Vườn Bồ-Rô.
Over the years, numerous structures were built within the park, including the Philharmonic Society (1896), the Freemasonry Society (1897), a sports club (1902), and an orphanage (1926). Eventually, the park was renamed Tao Dan when the French withdrew.
After 1975, the park was expanded with a children’s playground and renamed "Tao Dan Cultural Park." It became famous for its greenery and frequently hosts exhibitions during holidays and festivals.
