Located in Van Don District, Quang Ninh Province, Quan Lan Island lies around 70km from the centre of Ha Long City. The island is situated within Bai Tu Long Bay and is embraced by lush mountains, clear blue seas and long stretches of white sand beaches. Covering an area of approximately 11km², the island is home to a small community whose livelihood depends mainly on fishing and community-based tourism.
Besides its peaceful, untouched beauty, Quan Lan is also steeped in history. It was once home to Van Don Ancient Port, one of the most bustling trading ports during the Ly and Tran dynasties.
Stretching for kilometres, Quan Lan Beach boasts fine white sand and transparent waters where the seabed is visible. Unlike the bustle of more famous beaches, Quan Lan offers a tranquil, secluded escape ideal for those seeking privacy and stillness.
Situated around 4km from the island centre, Son Hao Beach is considered one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. It features clean water, gentle waves, and is perfect for camping, relaxing, or taking pre-wedding photoshoots.
Renowned for its powdery, glistening white sand that doesn’t stick to your feet, Minh Chau is a rare gem even among Vietnamese beaches. It’s also the area with the most developed services including accommodation, dining, and recreational activities.

As the island is not too large, hiring a bike or motorbike is the perfect way to explore. Ride through peaceful fishing villages, pine forests, temples and countryside paths with minimal traffic and clean air.
This is one of the oldest communal houses in Northern Vietnam, built in the 17th century to worship generals who defeated the Mongol invasions. The house features traditional architecture with intricate carvings in precious ironwood.
Dedicated to General Tran Khanh Du, a national hero of the Tran Dynasty who played a vital role in the Bạch Đằng naval victory. Every year, a traditional festival is held here in the 6th lunar month, attracting many visitors.
A peaceful ancient pagoda nestled in the village, offering a serene atmosphere and traditional design. This is where locals come to pray for peace and a prosperous fishing season.
You can also enjoy Gio Cake, Cha Cake or Seafood Noodle Soup, which reflect the simple yet unique flavours of coastal life.
