The Historical Significance of Bach Dang River Site

The historical site of Bach Dang River in Hai Phong is closely associated with three naval battles. These battles represent the indomitable spirit of the Vietnamese people:

In 938 AD, Ngo Quyen defeated the Southern Han army, ending a thousand years of domination from the north. In 981 AD, King Le Hoan triumphed over the Song dynasty's forces. In 1288 AD, General Tran Hung Dao led the naval battle on Bach Dang River against the Yuan-Mongol army. The site was constructed from 2008 to 2016, with a grand scale along the historic riverbank, adjacent to the Trang Kenh mountain range, to commemorate the remarkable contributions and feats of the legendary generals.

This complex serves as a convergence of historical imprints, cultural heritage, and religious beliefs of Hai Phong. On January 2, 2021, Bach Dang River was designated as a national historical-cultural relic and scenic landscape.
